ASU Open Door 2020

Biomimicry Exploration

February 22, 2019, 12:00 PM–February 10, 2020, 5:00 PM

850 S Forest Mall Room 126, Tempe, AZ 85281

Please join in the fun at ASU Open Door @ Tempe on Saturday, February 22, from 1-5 p.m. on the ASU Tempe campus!

ASU Open Door @ Tempe is a rare opportunity to get a behind the scenes look into the spaces that house our most innovative projects, including the Biodesign Institute, ASU Super Computer, Mars Space Flight Facility, ASU Marston Exploratory Theater, and more. ASU Open Door offers you the opportunity to hear firsthand from ASU students and faculty about rare poisonous insects, space exploration, volcanoes, drones and robots, medical breakthroughs and Mayan discoveries. Interactive hands-on activities offer a wide spectrum of sciences, engineering, humanities, and the arts. The Biomimicry Center will be hosting an activity at this event.

Biomimicry is an emerging discipline that creates sustainable solutions to human challenges by asking “How would nature do this?”. Well-known examples of biomimicry include Velcro®, whale-inspired wind turbines, and the kingfisher-inspired bullet train. Visit the Biomimicry Center to participate in a variety of hands-on lessons that demonstrate self-cleaning properties of lotus leaves, the aerodynamics of the kingfisher bill and the antibiotic action of sharkskin. Learn more about biomimicry in our new NatureMaker space, by exploring unique organisms and becoming inspired by the possibilities for innovation!
